OK. So you're all excited about downloading your digital music software. But... uh-oh! They're not Mac compatible.
What to do?
Well, this very much depends on how you want to download your songs - via legal sites or by peer-to-peer sites (may or may not be legal, depending on the situation.
First, let's cover the difference between the two, starting with the legal sites.
The legal download sites are more reliable, of course, and are eons ahead of their P2P counterparts - not just in terms of legality.
Other benefits include, but are not limited to:
- Sound Quality. Quality is never a problem with the legal services.
- Features, including how you search for songs, create and organize playlists.
- Much faster download speeds
- Outstanding selection of files - over 1.5 million for the top services.
- Streaming options, including radio options
- Much better customer service
The problem with the legal sites if you want to use a Mac computer is that almost none of them are mac compatible. So... there obviously won't be mac compatible music downloads!
Conversely, almost all P2P sites are ready for Mac compatible music downloads. Other benefits for these sites include:
- unlimited burns.
- may get special mixes of songs that may be hard to find with legal sites.
- are actually starting to become more legal (although it will be next year until a significant bunch of them do).
The problem with peer-to-peer sites is that they are not as reliable as the truly 100% legal sites in general. Even the ones that claim to be 100% legal may not be legal under a big batch of circumstances.
This is not a problem with legal sites - they are always legal. A more in-depth view on legal downloads is found here.
